Documents of “Western Ukrainian People’s Republic Archives in Rome” as source of activities of Ukrainian military-sanitary mission in Czechoslovakia

Abstract: The purpose of the work is to analyze the documents of the Ukrainian military-sanitary mission for the affairs of prisoners of war in Central and Southern Europe about its activities in the Czechoslovak Republic, located in the “Western Ukrainian People’s Republic Archives in Rome” fond. The methodology of the study is based on the basic research principles of historicism, scientificity, objectivity, general scientific methods (historical and logical, comparison) and special historical methods (problematic-chronological, source analysis, historiographical analysis). Scientific novelty. For the first time in Ukrainian historical science was analyzed the information content of documents from the “Western Ukrainian People’s Republic Archives in Rome” fond about the activities of the Ukrainian military-sanitary mission in the affairs of military prisoners in Central and Southern Europe in Czechoslovakia. Conclusions. The documents of the “Western Ukrainian People’s Republic Archives in Rome” are a valuable source of the activities of the Ukrainian Military Sanitary Mission for the affairs of prisoners of war in Central and Southern Europe and its Prague department. They highlight repatriation measures, reveal little-known details of other areas of mission activity, cooperation with the Extraordinary Diplomatic Mission of the Ukrainian People’s Republic in the Czechoslovak Republic, the Czechoslovak Red Cross, which generally reflects important aspects of Ukrainian-Czech relations in 1919—1920.
