Abstract: The purpose of the article. The article is devoted to clarifying the multifaceted problem of covering the life and activities of Mykhailo Hrushevskyi in the journal “Dilo” during 1914—1939. Research methodology. When processing the various materials of the journal, we used systematic and comparative methods as well as critical analysis of the source base represented by large text arrays. The scientific novelty of the research lies in the first attempt at a comprehensive historiographical analysis of various publications on the pages of “Dilo” from 1914 to 1939, dedicated to the understanding of M. Hrushevskyi’s life. Conclusions. The conducted research proved that despite the departure of M. Hrushevskyi from Galicia in 1914, “Dilo”unwaveringly followed his activities. Having turned the page of the conflict with the historian during the pre-war period, the journal regularly informed its readers about the troubles and successes of its long-time contributor. Moreover, despite the risks of censorship persecution, it repeatedly initiated successful public actions to protect his honor and dignity. Also, “Dilo” was one of the only publications in the free world that consistently supported public and creative initiatives of M. Hrushevskyi, bringing to the reader the rationale for his sometimes controversial actions. Gratefully reciprocating their open-mindedness, the historian chose the Galician magazine as a platform for operational communication with the Zbruch and emigration communities. Therefore, “Dilo” accounts for the majority of the scientist’s publications in the daily periodical of the interwar years. Later, after Hrushevskyi’s death, the journal became an important platform of posthumous memorialization of the figure of M. Hrushevskyi and the understanding of his legacy. As a result, an anthology of memorial Hrushevskyi’s studies appeared, which gave an impetus to a systematic historiographical analysis. Despite the violent curtailment of these processes after September 1939, the experience acquired by the authors of “Dilo” in understanding the phenomenon of the Great Ukrainian was useful to diaspora intellectuals who in the post-war years started academic Hrushevskyi studies.
