Abstract: The article shows an independent position of the author as to the problem of periodisation of the development of the book in Ukraine. The researcher offers her own scheme of periodisation of the book history in Ukraine from the ancient times up to nowadays that was worked out on the basis of a complex investigation. In particular, the author stands for the 5 periods in the history: the period of the sacral status of the book (X – 1st half of XVI cent.), the period of desacralisation of the book (2nd half of XVI – XVIII cent.), the period of the popular book (XIX – 20s of XX cent.), the “Soviet” period (30s – 90s of XX cent.), the period of informational technologies (end of 90s of XX – beginning of XXI cent.).
