Abstract: Basing on the documents from the collections of the Institute of Manuscripts of the Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine (Col. 339), the Russian State Archives of Literature and Arts, the manuscript department of the Russian National Library, as well as Russian-Jewish articles and publications in early XX cent. periodicals and other sources, the author reviews the history of foundation and publication of "Yevreyskiy mir" ("The Jewish World"), issued in Saint-Petersburg in 1908 - 1911, and traces down the participation of the outstanding Jewish writer and ethnographer S. An-sky in the weekly. Social, political and cultural conditions for the work of the publishing council, as well as polemical issues relating language and fate and fortunes of the Jews in Russia risen on the pages of "Yevreyskiy mir" are analyzed. The major part of the archival documents used by the author are introduced into the sphere of scientific investigation for the first time. Cite: |
