Abstract: The author of the paper retraces the history of the creation of the Kyiv commercial institute fundamental library (1906 – 1920) and its specialized branches. The principles of the collection ordering and the acquisitional management techniques are described. A particular attention is paid to the role played by professor of the Kyiv St. Volodymyr university M. V. Dovnar-Zapolsky in the foundation of the mentioned institution.
