Section: History of Book Collections and Gatherings

Abstract: The article considers distinctive elements of Ukrainian Baroque editions artistic structure, featured on title pages, in dedications, forewords and text parts of Cyrillic old printed editions of the late 16th – the first part of the 18th centuries. The research was based on books from the fonds of the Department of Old Printed Books and Rare Editions of V. Vernadsky National library of Ukraine, which have baroque style features in their content and artistic decoration. Main attention is paid to the interaction of an edition artistic structure with an artistic structure of a baroque text. Structure-forming elements of horizontal and vertical structure of a baroque text are specified. These elements make an edition cohesive and coherent. For instance, central allegoric images, reflected in book graphics and poetical word, which summarize, interpret and amplify the content of an edition, are analyzed. Structure-forming role of dedications to divine and human patrons of editions are revised as well. The dedications are presented in a form of heraldic compositions and descriptive epigrams, poetical introductions and conclusions with appellations to the reader, prayers to God and Virgin Mary with thanks for the help in work on the edition and requests for prosperity of editors and their readers. Specified structure-forming elements are common for the structure of both religious and secular editions
