Slavic subjects in the documents of the Institute of Manuscript of V. Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine

Section: Studies in Special Historical Disciplines

Abstract: In the paper investigated are handwritten articles, notes and reviews of the scientists and lecturers of the 19th – early 20th centuries concerning the issues of the historical past of the Slavic superethnos, covering the relations of the Slavic nations having no state status with the Russian Empire. These are Ukrainian, Belorussian, Polish, Serbian, Croatian and Check nations. Analyzed are the nature and contents of the manuscripts and some publications dealing with the Slavic issues. These include the scientists’ own research, excerpts from the compositions of different authors, lecture notes, reports. They contain the most important aspects concerning the ethnoses’ origin, interethnic relations, cover the issues of religion, language, the essence of Slavophilism, Pan-Slavism, Panrusism, Polonophilism, Ukrainophilism. The author states that some judgements in the indicated documents have been outdated with the course of time, and the others have been complemented by the latest researchers or confuted. It is caused by the deficiency of information and scientific research methodology, as well as by the existence of several objective and subjective factors. Anyway, the documents still have been a meaningful source for the study of the evolution of the socio-political and historical thought in the matter of Slavistics
