European experience of the formation of digital resources of historical and cultural heritage

Section: Informational Technologies in Librarian and Archival Sciences

Abstract: The article covers international and national strategies, institutional and regional initiatives of European countries concerning the digitization, online access and digital storage of cultural heritage, established in European institutions of cultural heritage, that is in libraries, archives, museums and other cultural institutions. Characterized are the projects coordinators and the institutions engaged in the formation of digital heritage resources, access specifics, progress in the media of heritage preservation and copyright protection. The author also accentuates the processes’ fragmentary nature, which reveals the possibilities and concernment of different countries as for these processes
